The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been advised to without delay distance itself from former President Akufo-Addo.
According to one social media user, that is the only way the party can redeem itself and rebuild.
“Until they swiftly cut ties with everything Akufo-Addo and possibly expunge his record from their history, no amount of whitewashing will erase the stain. His name carries a stench; people cringe at its mention,” the social media identified as Bongo Ideas wrote on his X page.
Referring Ghanaians to what happened to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the past, he indicated that just like the parents of millennials and Gen Zs conditioned them to hate the NDC, the same is being done against the NPP.
“Now, millennials and Gen Z like me are conditioning Gen Z and Gen Alpha to despise anything NPP, just as our parents did with the NDC. And it’s all because of Akufo-Addo. My hatred for him—and I believe our collective hatred for him—will be indelible and everlasting,” he stated.
He cautioned that the NPP may end up like the Nkrumah’s CPP if they refuse to heed to his warning.
The NPP seems to be in a disarray following the overwhelming defeat they suffered in the December 7, 2024 general elections.
After the defeat, the party set-up a committee to find out the cause of such a defeat.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially received the final report from the committee led by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, which was tasked with investigating the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The report was presented during an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, April 16, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The 12-member committee was established to examine the factors behind the NPP’s loss of both the presidency and its parliamentary majority in the 2024 elections. The party lost the presidency to the National Democratic Congress’ John Dramani Mahama and experienced a significant decline in its parliamentary seats.
Following the presentation, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed receipt of the report and assured that its contents and recommendations would be communicated in due time.
“Today, [Wednesday, April 16], the Committee, led by Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye submitted their report to the National Council. The National Council accepted the report,” he stated.
Although the report has been received, the party has failed to inform Ghanaians what the reports says.
However, prior to the constituting of the committee, some bigwigs of the NPP embarked on some media interviews and cited disunity as one of the major causes of the party’s defeat, an element which still exists in the party.
The NPP has been unable to mend the cracks in the party as even on its Thank You Tour post the election defeat, this disunity reared its ugly head.
Now the question on the minds of most Ghanaians is will the NPP ever get back on its feet, and how soon will that be.

Growing up in Ghana, our parents taught us to hate Jerry John Rawlings and the NDC.
We found the NDC unattractive, and Rawlings was labeled heartless, with chilling tales told about his “vindictive political exploits.”
