Ebi Bright a Ghanaian actress-turned-politician and 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tema Central has been officially confirmed as the new Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
Ebi Bright got 28 assembly members votes in her favour and 3 against her.
Speaking after her confirmation on Friday, May 9, the Tema Mayor stated, “I’m profoundly grateful to H.E John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me and all the gallant men and women who make up his cabinet and advisers. And to the Honourable Assembly members and government appointees, for your endorsement,” she stated.
She added, “It is my mission to lead Tema into a bold new chapter, one defined by purpose, service, and love. Transforming Tema into a sustainable, industrial, economic, and social powerhouse. My vision is to transform Tema into a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic urban hub where industrial revival is thriving 24-hour economy.”
“Over the years, it’s been difficult for me to decouple Tema Central from Tema in general,” she said. “But the only reason why it was possible was because it was important to situate the area politically—so we could be heard instead of being marginalised.”
“My commitment has always been to Tema as a whole, of which Tema Central, of course, is a part. So I am very honoured, but I feel the weight of the challenge.”
“With all the brouhaha surrounding my nomination and confirmation, I think there will be a lot of expectation from myself and the comrades I will be working with,” she said adding “We are very elated.”
