Karpowership Ghana the operator of the Aboadze power barge has served notice to shut down its plant on May 18, 2025, over $400 million in debt.
According to reports Karpower had earlier threatened to suspend the electricity supply unless the government settles its debt.
On February 10, 2025, a meeting between Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor and Karpowership officials was held, and this was made according to reports.
