Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been served a writ of summons by Exim Bank adding to his legal challenges.
The Exim Bank writ of summons follows Wontumi’s interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Wontumi’s lawyer and former Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North revealed that amidst these developments, they received a writ of summons from Exim Bank earlier in the afternoon.
Speaking to the media he stated, “Nevertheless, we have also received this afternoon a writ of summons from Exim Bank, and we are going to respond to the pleadings tomorrow. I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defence to the writ”.
“When we are in court, we will indicate to the court that this is a civil matter, for which reason Exim Bank has issued a writ to us, which we are also responding to. So, this one of a supposed criminal investigation, I am sure and confident that we will be able to mount a defence,” Appiah-Kubi added.
Appiah-Kubi further revealed that Wontumi reportedly fell ill while being interrogated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
He however refused to provide the name or location of the medical facility where his client was receiving treatment.
Speaking to the media Andy Appiah Kubi stated, “I know where he is but I am not going to disclose the hospital. But all that I can say is that my client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.”
“We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue hopefully [Wednesday] if his condition improves. Otherwise, he will stay there until the doctors discharge him, and then we come back to continue the interrogation,” he explained.
Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Wontumi was arrested by EOCO following a visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Tuesday, May 27 shortly after leaving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
However, EOCO operatives intercepted him upon his exit.
EOCO has yet to issue an official statement on the Wontumi’s arrest.
