A 16-year-old form two student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) who was arrested for possessing a locally manufactured firearm without lawful authority has been granted a GH¢50,000 bail by the District Court in Mamponteng.
Natacha Abena Tuffour who presided over the case granted the suspect’s stepfather Daniel Owusu Baafi a GH¢30,000 bail.
Their bail was subject to the provision of two sureties each.
According to reports the arrest comes following a routine dormitory search by school authorities on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
During the search, the school authorities discovered the locally manufactured firearm.
The student was later handed to the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for further investigation.
Reports suggest that the SHS student during interrogation alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr Daniel Owusu Baafi who had also been picked up by the police.
Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo revealed this in a statement on Sunday, May 18.
