Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament has boldly stated the Council of State has failed Ghanaians.

According to Afenyo Markin, he did not have the courage and doubted if he could trust the Council of State after they established a prima facie case against Chief Justice  Torkonoo.

Speaking on JOY FM Super Morning Show, Afenyo Markin stated, “Our Council of State has failed us, the Council of State tells us that they have found a prima facie. That is where the disappointment comes from today in Ghana the political actors where there is a challenge.

I remember in the 8th parliament we relied on the Council of State a lot to intervene in that parliament. They helped us a lot.

Now will I have the courage, will I have the trust in them, this is the Council of State we have they call themselves Council of State and then you make a recommendation that the woman should be suspended, it is not about her but it is about the institution”, he added.

His comment comes after President Mahama suspended the Chief Justice following a prima facie case being determined against her by the Council of State.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin has also boldly claimed President John Dramani Mahama is plotting a third-term agenda in disguise.

He noted that the bold attempt by John Mahama to nominate out of the blue seven judges to the Supreme Court and the attempts to remove the Chief Justice are plots to set up a third-term agenda for his leadership.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday, May 1, “We are going on a peaceful demonstration, this is not a parliament fight, it is a fight for every citizen who wants to live in a country where the law is supreme and no man no matter how powerful is above the law.

There must be an end to the division and the anger of the past, this government must tread with the greatest caution always keeping tomorrow in mind when making decisions today because this decision may shape future governments if we continue this path”.

He added, “It is obvious that the bold attempt by Mr President to nominate out of the blue seven judges to the Supreme Court is the first major attempt that they have rehearsed a third-term agenda.

All that the NDC is doing, All that our president is doing through the advice of the hawks of the NDC is to set a third-term agenda for his leadership”.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of GoldBoard has revealed his sources have informed him that 30 out of the 31 Council of State members support prima facie cases against the suspended Chief Justice Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, nobody can tell him that all the 30 members of the Council of State are NDC members who hate the Chief Justice.
