The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has addressed rumors surrounding the sudden withdrawal of its National Chairman, Stephen Ntim from the ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’.
The party issued a statement earlier announcing the withdrawal of Chairman Ntim from the tour.
According to the party, Stephen Ntim, has temporarily stepped away from the nationwide ‘Thank You Tour’ to attend to pressing matters.
“The New Patriotic Party wishes to inform all members and the public that the National Chairman has taken a short break from the ongoing nationwide ‘Thank You tour’ to attend to some pressing matters,” parts of a statement signed on Thursday, May 1, by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah read.
The statement which came after Kennedy Agyapong a former member of Parliament and flagbearer aspirant pulled out of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thank You Tour after a stabbing incident.
The statement of Chairman Ntim was ambiguous and drew different interpretations from the Ghanaian public, with some speculating that internal wrangling had caused him to leave the ‘Thank You Tour’.
However addressing a press conference on May 1, Richard Ahiagbah used the opportunity to address the rumors and bring calm to the party.
“You saw a statement this afternoon about the National Chairman (Stephen Ntim) withdrawing or taking a break from the tour. The only clarification we will want to make is that he is taking that break to join the demonstration on May 5th.”
“I have seen others who are spinning that negatively but we want to be expressly clear that that break the Chairman is taking is to allow him to lead us on Monday to take this demonstration and give it all the prominence and importance. We need to send the message to the executives that the NPP and the other political parties will stand against President Mahama and the NDC’s attempt to undermine the judiciary.”
The opposition NPP and four other minor political parties, have declared May 5th, 2025 as the day to embark on a Save The Judiciary Demonstration. The demonstration is in response to the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkonoo by President John Dramani Mahama.
The parties have described the suspension as a direct assault on the judiciary and an attempt to erode the independence of the country’s legal system.
