Further information has surfaced about the final-year nursing student who died in her boyfriend’s room over an alleged abortion gone wrong.
According to the reports, the 28-year-old final-year student of the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Gifty Kyere reportedly died in her boyfriend’s room at Jinijini in the Berekum area of the Bono Region.
The incident, which occurred under mysterious circumstances, has left her family in shock.
Her father, who has been identified as Pastor Kyere Jonathan, is a senior pastor at the Agape Evangelical Church in Jinijini.
He disclosed that Gifty had left home just a day earlier after collecting her school fees and other items. He expressed disbelief that she ended up at her boyfriend’s residence instead.
Reports suggest the 23-year-old boyfriend, identified as Edmond Ayomah, is currently on the run but is said to have contacted some individuals, expressing his willingness to turn himself in.
Initial accounts suggest he told them that Gifty had suffered an asthma attack and that he lacked the funds to take her to the hospital.
However, that claim has reportedly been refuted during preliminary investigations.
Sources close to the case indicate the suspect had pressured Gifty to terminate a pregnancy, a development believed to have contributed to her death.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is currently investigating the incident.
