Vincent Ekow Assafuah the member of parliament for Old Tafo and a member of Ghana’s Youth and Sports Committee has alleged that the Sports Ministry facilitated 500 NDC supporters to the UK under the pretext of watching Black Stars.
According to Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the NDC through certain individuals at the Ministry of Sports facilitated the acquisition of UK visas for NDC apparatchiks.
He claimed that the NDC apparatchiks were charged exorbitant fees far above the standard rate.
Speaking on UTV on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Assafuah detailed, “Based on credible information I received about two days ago, it is clear that the NDC, through certain individuals at the Ministry of Sports and other party affiliates, is facilitating the acquisition of UK visas for NDC apparatchiks. These individuals were charged exorbitant fees far above the standard rate.
If I am called upon at any point, I am ready to provide proof. For instance, if you go to VSF and apply for a six-month UK visa, the fee is around £125, which is approximately GH₵2,000. But go and ask how much the agents who arranged the visas were charging each person,” he stated.
He added, “People made it like a business, to the point that even the British High Commissioner I’m told had to issue a statement that the next batch coming they were not going to get the visas.
The name of the agent I will not mention but at the right time, you will hear it”.
The Unity Cup is a pan-African football tournament being held in London at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars lost their semi-final tie against, Nigeria 2–1.
Some Ghanaians have reacted to Ekow Assafuah’s claims saying, “ That is the big difference between NPP and NDC.
NPP had the same opportunity and gave all to their side chicks and NDC is giving it to his party people now you see why some NPP people voted for NDC”.
“As if they the NPP didn’t do some or never done it? Why are they so pain that they want to be talking about everything even the ones they also did”, another stated.
One X user added, “No one should take this irresponsible man seriously! even if his allegations are true, are they Ghanaians or Togolese?”
Additionally, one netizen quizzed, “The people who, when the government does something wrong, respond by saying the NPP did the same when they were in power—and then later turn around to say the NPP wrongdoers should be arrested—how does your brain work?”
