Oheneba Nana Asiedu, aide of the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempting to malign the good name of his benefactor, Chairman Wontumi.
His statements come at the back of a press conference organized by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah who accused Wontumi and illegal mining practices and eventually revoked mining licenses of his Akonta Mining.
According to him, the NDC wants to use Chairman Wontumi as a scapegoat and attempt destabilize his finances just like they tried in 2013.
“Their (NDC) plan is to use Wontumi as a scapegoat and to those calling in exercise patience. In 2013, it was 500 excavators, there are documents before the law court that the NDC didn’t deny or argue it was wrong. There were 500 excavators on legal mining sites of Wontumi which were burnt to the ground,” he stated in a show.
He added that aside from the excavators, 100 pickups belonging to Wontumi were also burnt. Oheneba Nana Asiedu also accused NDC operatives of stealing money and gold belonging to Wontumi in the process.
“They couldn’t bring him down. So, no matter what he is like fire and when you put him in fire he will come out refined.”
Oheneba Nana Asiedu claimed that the allegations levelled against Wontumi by the Minister was just a ploy to keep Wontumi TV and Radio from holding the Mahama government accountable for its actions.
He also charged Chairman Wontumi to haul the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah to court for maligning his personal and business reputation.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has shed tears after watching a documentary showcasing the destruction of lands and water bodies in the Western Region.
According to reports, the destruction was caused by Akonta Mining Company Limited owned by Chairman Wontumi the Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP.
Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has also revoked the license of Akonta Mining Limited.
In the viral video, a man is seen approaching him to briefly console him with a gentle pat on the shoulder.
The Lands Minister in a press conference stated, “Some interviews conducted with a few residents indicate that the modus operandi of Akonta Mining is to use force to enter and destroy even the farmlands and produce of poor farmers in the area.
“Armed with this intel, on the eve of Good Friday (17th April 2025) an intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Forestry Commission led to the raid of six illegal mining sites linked to Akonta Mining”.
