A former Chief of Staff under former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration Kwadwo Mpiani has quizzed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about their ongoing ‘thank you tour‘.
According to the NPP bigwig, what are they thanking Ghanaians for? For nor voting for them or what?”
He asserted that the NPP’s ‘thank you tour’ is a misplaced priority.
Speaking on JOYNEWS the Pulse on Tuesday, 29th April, Kwadwo Mpiani stated, “The whole exercise is misplaced. What are we going to thank them for? For not voting for us, or what? So I don’t think this is the time for this kind of exercise,”
“Because we performed so miserably in this election, we have set up a committee to tour the country to investigate what went wrong.
He added, “I believe the first thing we should do, after identifying the reasons for the party’s sorry state, is not to go out thanking people. The most important thing is to understand what happened and take decisive action”.
The tour comes on the back of a report by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye 12-member committee, which was established to investigate the reasons behind the party’s electoral loss.
Meanwhile, a former presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko has advised the party to pull the brakes on its ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’.
According to him, should his warning go without immediate action, the ‘Thank You Tour’ which seeks to reunite the party will only end up breaking it apart more.
“The ongoing Thank You Tour envisioned as a beacon of hope and a rallying point to reignite the spirit of our faithful and supporters, is, unfortunately, veering off course. What was intended to restore our party’s shine and reconnect us with the grassroots is instead unravelling into bouts of discord, blame-shifting, and internal strife,” he wrote.
He indicated that some undesirable events happening on the tour pose a significant threat to the party’s future.
“This regrettable turn of events threatens to inflict serious collateral damage on the very fabric of our party,” adding that the developments are “steadily eroding the goodwill and trust we have worked so hard to cultivate among the Ghanaian people.”
In an immediate call to action, he added, “In light of these unfortunate developments, I am earnestly calling on the leadership of our party to act swiftly and decisively. It is time to apply the brakes and reassess the direction of the Thank You Tour. We must pull back from what increasingly looks like an imminent collision course and chart a path that upholds the unity, dignity, and forward-looking spirit of our tradition.”
