President John Dramani Mahama is confident Ghana has set the foundation to be the leading hub of technology globally with the launch of the One Million Coders Programme.
According to him, the launch of the programme will transform Ghana into a digital economy.
He noted that the One Million Coders Programme in the next few years will train one million Ghanaians in key digital and coding skills, resulting in they taking over the technology space.
Speaking at the official launch of the programme on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, President Mahama indicated that “We are not just launching a programme, but we are laying the foundation for a blue economy. We are declaring with bold purpose that Ghana is ready to lead in the digital age.”
President Mahama explained that the initiative is a critical component of the government’s broader Reset Ghana Agenda as opposed to claims of it being just a campaign promise.
He added that the programme’s key objective is to reposition the country for inclusive, innovation-driven development.
“We are saying to our youth, community, and the continent and the world that the future is here and we will be part of shaping it.
“It is not a fulfilled promise but is a strategic pillar in our reset Ghana agenda, designed to equip Ghanians with critical digital skills for the 21st Century life and work,” he added.
The government’s One Million Coders initiative seeks to empower Ghanaians with the skills of the future. The programme is open to student, professional, or simply curious persons, offering them a pathway to a brighter future.
