DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander has stated the Ghana Police Service will do everything in its power to fish out the military man in the Nyinahin shooting.
DCOP Teye-Cudjoe during a visit to the community stated, “We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice. Apart from ensuring that justice is served, with the collaboration of the military, we will make sure we bring the culprit to book.
“He is an individual who committed this criminal act, and we will fish him out. We want to assure the people of Nyinahin that we will go all out and make sure that justice is served,” he said.
The Chief of the area, Nana Amapene Boateng Twum II, has also expressed worry about the incident. He said the actions of the military have left the community in fear.
“We are pleading with the police to look into this issue. The culprit must be punished. We are all under the law; no one is above it. Even if there was provocation, you are not supposed to shoot a person. This case is serious, so I am pleading with the police to investigate and bring the culprit to book.”
According to reports one person has died following a clash between the military and mourners over camouflage attire with three people having also been confirmed injured following the clash in Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Reports suggest the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday 24 April 2025.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the mourners, en route to a cemetery, encountered a group of military men. The soldiers approached one of the mourners who was wearing a camouflage outfit and demanded he remove it immediately.
The individual reportedly agreed to take off the top but refused to remove the trousers, explaining that doing so would leave him completely naked.
The disagreement escalated into a serious altercation, during which gunshots were fired. The individual was allegedly shot in the head, while three others sustained injuries, reportedly from stones and stray bullets.
The injured have since been transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the wife of the man who was allegedly shot for wearing military camouflage has spoken out following the incident.
She appealed to the public for support in raising the six children he left behind, noting that he was the family’s sole breadwinner before his tragic death.
Speaking to the media, she stated, “ They said, he should remove the dress he was wearing, and they said he removed the top, and someone shouted telling me he had been shot. The person stated he removed the down but the down he said he was not wearing anything beneath so he was not going to remove it and they shot him”.
