A video has surfaced of Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Member of Parliament Alhassan Suhuyini confronting a staff at the Tamale Teaching Hospital over a patient’s death.
According to reports, the Health Minister and the deputy road minister were demanding answers from the Accident and Emergency unit about the death of a patient.
In the viral video shared by TV3 on X Kwabena Mintah Akandoh upset with the Tamale Teaching Hospital staff stated, “Even the minister, look at the way you are behaving in front of me, so you can imagine how you treat…
How can you behave like this, it means that he is doing worse things here. There is a problem here. How can somebody talk to this man here, how will he be able to communicate with this man here?”, he added.
Alhassan Suhuyini was also heard saying, “So, if a commoner comes here, can you imagine how he would behave.”
Some Ghanaians have reacted to the video saying, “ People should be held accountable but I don’t endorse this approach. Will these ministers be happy if we came to their offices with cameras to demand certain things from them. You can do these things off camera and later inform the press”.
“I see a more effective way to handle this. As Minister, your responsibilities are significant, and it’s essential that you concentrate on what truly matters. You must resist the trappings of power. This could have been done behind the scenes @KMAkandoh”, an X user added.
Another netizen wrote, This confrontational way of dealing with issues serves no good. U can solve this without the funfair. I keep saying English language shd be swapped for communication skills right from JHS 1, will make so much difference how we approach issues”.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh had earlier sent a warning to unprofessional and rude nurses.
Mintah Akandoh asserted that most healthcare workers are dedicated and compassionate, and only a few tarnish the image of the rest.
According to Mintah Akandoh, rude and unprofessional’ nurses better shape up or ship out.
Speaking at a cholera sensitisation programme at the Winneba Government Hospital, he stated, “We have fantastic and very professional health workers but there are a few bad nuts amongst them, especially the way some of you handle patients. Sometimes you will be surprised to hear that somebody may be sick, (especially the aged). If you ask him or her to go to the hospital, he will say the nurse will insult me or shout at me.
“Irrespective of the level of provocation, we expect you to be very professional, it’s an appeal to the few bad nuts that are amongst you. Some of these things I will take it seriously. It doesn’t mean that we are going to come after somebody but it’s important for us to protect our patients and also make them feel comfortable”, he added.
