A video has surfaced of a female resident of Bawku going down on her knees to plead with President John Dramani Mahama for urgent support.
In the viral video shared by Metro TV, the female residents appealed to President John Mahama and the Otunfuo for immediate intervention and lasting solutions to restore peace and stability in the region.
The woman on her knees stated, “I am going down on my knees President John Dramani Mahama have pity on us, we cried for you to come and listen to our cry, but it is as if John Mahama has snubbed us as we are begging him. We have become pathetic.
Wherever the truth is they should look at God and put the truth where it is supposed to be, we are also pleading with the Otumfuo he told us that two chiefs cannot be on one land. I am asking where he is if someone comes to rule when he is there can that work?”
She added, “We are begging them that we need justice, there is no movement of the motor, and we don’t have anywhere going, it is not everyone who can get 5000 cedis to pack his motor and buy an e-bike so we are begging we have become pathetic.
Imagine, three days today, some soldier came around 2 o’clock they stood infront of my place to fire shots at some boys and the women there they gave a warning shots for us to go inside otherwise they will shoot us. Are the women also part of the conflict or are they fighting in the homes of people?”
Meanwhile, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fired shots at President John Dramani Mahama over the escalating Bawku conflict.
According to Henry Nana Boakye, John Mahama engaged in reckless politics by claiming anytime that NDC is in power, there is calmness in Bawku.
He also asserted that the president during the 2024 election campaign threw his weight behind a particular faction as the leader there because he thought it was going to help him politically.
Speaking on CITI FM, Henry Nana Boakye stated, “The Bawku issue is getting out of hand and shockingly you have a whole IGP who goes in there and it looks like he was even shocked for his life. We’ve had two police shot dead. There are some reports that what the police put out is not the accurate report”.
“These were clear attacks on the police people but then the police is also blaming it on armed robbery. It looks like the Bawku issue is really getting out of hand,” he added.
He further added, “Indeed the sitting president now did a whole lot of reckless politics with it where he said that anytime that NDC is in power there is calmness, there is peace in Bawku. Today look at what you’ve caused. You went in there and threw your weight behind a particular faction as the leader there because you thought it was going to help you politically. Today you’ve soiled your hands in these matters because you’ve already taken sides”.
“So his excellency the president has caused us a lot of harm especially regarding this Bawku matters,” Nana B concluded.
Additionally, the Manhyia Palace has announced that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will resume mediation efforts to address the Bawku conflict from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
