The wife of the man who was allegedly shot for wearing military camouflage has spoken out following the incident.
She appealed to the public for support in raising the six children he left behind, noting that he was the family’s sole breadwinner before his tragic death.
Speaking to the media, she stated, “ They said, he should remove the dress he was wearing, and they said he removed the top, and someone shouted telling me he had been shot. The person stated he removed the down but the down he said he was not wearing anything beneath so he was not going to remove it and they shot him”.
According to reports one person has died following a clash between the military and mourners over camouflage attire with three people having also been confirmed injured following the clash in Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Reports suggest the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday 24 April 2025.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the mourners, en route to a cemetery, encountered a group of military men. The soldiers approached one of the mourners who was wearing a camouflage outfit and demanded he remove it immediately.
The individual reportedly agreed to take off the top but refused to remove the trousers, explaining that doing so would leave him completely naked.
The disagreement escalated into a serious altercation, during which gunshots were fired. The individual was allegedly shot in the head, while three others sustained injuries, reportedly from stones and stray bullets.
The injured have since been transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
Some Ghanaians have reacted to the sad news saying, “ Arghhhh what is happening in this country ? You kill someone over camouflage trousers? What is Ghana coming to ?”.
“When they were busy throwing stones at them where were you . Listen to the background Commentary “Nyinahini is sweeet “because the guys were molesting the Millitary. How on earth do you think Millitary Men not Man will allow some boys to over power them to feel like they are useless”, another Ghanaian stated.
Another netizen stated, “But seriously sometimes I don’t know what’s wrong with some of us because you are aware of the dangers involved in wearing anything of the military (whether its legal or not) but you have decided to wear it. So whose fault is it now, is it from the military men or the individual?”
One more X user stated, “ The one dead agreed to take them off but one of the guys who was shot in the leg told the guy not to take it off. He followed the guy who asked him not to take it off and things escalated and they got shot. That’s what really happened. They wanted to show their powers”.
Additionally, a netizen claimed the man was not shot because he was wearing a camo but because they were attacking the soldiers.
“Nkwaseasem. He wasn’t shot because of the camo, he was shot because the boys were attacking the soldiers, wanted to show the soldiers that, yh, they’re the hard guys in the town. So unfortunate he was the one used as a perfect example”, he stated.
