Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has expressed shock over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Disciplinary Committee’s decision not to inform her about the postponement of her hearing.
Adwoa Safo, was ordered to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following her recent media outburst and criticism of the party’s December 7 2024 elections defeat.
Her summons forms part of the party’s efforts to assess and investigate the effects of her statements during these media rounds on the party’s image in the eyes of right thinking Ghanaians.
A notice, jointly signed by Patrick Boamah, Secretary to the Disciplinary Committee, and William Yamoah, Director of Finance and Administration, was issued on 24 March 2025.
Her hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 am which was to be held at the party’s national headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
However, on the morning of Monday, April 7, 2025, the party issued a statement stating the Disciplinary Committee hearing had been postponed.
Adwoa Safo indicated that she was not privy to this postponement, adding no one had inform her of such.
Appearing at the party’s headquarters with an entourage in tow, Adwoa Safo addressed the media. “I got an engagement with one of the party’s national officers and I was told the hearing was postponed. There was no hearing and why was I not told anything, and if there was change of plan, why wasn’t I served personally or told.”
Adwoa Safo who did not bother to ask why the hearing was suspended from the party’s national officer added, “so if there was a change of plans why wasn’t a phone call placed on my phone? Somebody knows my number directly so I don’t know why but I am here.”
According to her, the party has made a joke out of its polices and constitution with such an act. “I am prepared for a committee hearing, and come and I am told there is no meeting. I just pack my bags and leave. I think that as a party you need to be a bit serious about these things.”
As a lawyer, Adwoa Safo pointed out to the fact that being hauled before a Disciplinary Committee means one has done a wrong “and is going to be disciplined. So, why ridicule me and let come here before I am told the hearing has been postponed. I am ridiculed and nobody is here to sit for the hearing.”
