Ghanaian fashion icon, Akua Manfo commonly known as Blackofe has cried for her life after a confrontation with some personal security personnel of former President Akufo Addo.
According to Blackofe, this comes after she condemned the blockage of two streets which are close to the former president’s residence in Nima.
Blackofe in a self-recorded video narrated the whole incident, saying, “Earlier today I was in Nima and I had to walk past Akufo-Addo’s house, whenever you walk past there you see loads of guys out there I assume they are security so one of the guys called me Blackofe and I am the kind of person when you call me I will stop and chat you.
So the guy called me so I stopped and he came over and he asked me why did I do that video of Akufo-Addo at the barrier here you are making as look bad. So I said to him, do you think it is right for Akufo-Addo to block the road so neighbours and people cannot access the road?”
She continued, “He told me that it is a protocol from the government. He said the current government has given Akufo-Addo the protocol to block the road forever because he was one’s president. So I asked him why that was not the case for Kufuor and Rawlings and he said because of where Akufo-Addo lives the government has decided he will have this barrier there forever and neighbours cannot access the road again.
He raised his voice and I also raised my voice, things were getting out of control and a second guy came to join him. The second guy didn’t say anything to me but me and the other guy went back and forth and one other guy shouted leave it and that is when he let me be”.
Blackofe revealed that she has business in Akufo-Addo’s area so she comes there a lot but is now worried if she is safe because the guys attacked her for saying they should remove the barrier.
She alleged that maybe they would follow her next time and attack her.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to her video saying, “ Blakofe had a point – if public spaces become no-go zones, we must ask: who are we protecting, and at what cost?”
Another stated, “Because you had a confrontation with a security officer means you are not safe in the community?? Got to be a joke right 😂😂”.
One user also wrote, “She was an appointee of Nana Addo but resigned because her fellow appointees didn’t care about work. All they did was travel and chop money, no work for which reason they were appointed. And this was less than 6 months into his administration. The signs were there”.
Additionally, another X user stated, “ She is a former appointee of Akufo Addo. She served as Deputy CEO of GTDC. I remember she vowed never to come back to Ghana so I wonder why she’s here”.
