Suzzy Pinamang, a student of Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, who was shot in the face by a fellow student in the classroom is gradually losing her sight.
According to reports although she has been released from the hospital, some bullets are still in her face and have not yet been extracted.
Since she is in excruciating pain at the moment, the family is pleading with Ghanaians for financial assistance to help pay for additional medical operations that will help her situation.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, following an argument among students over the functionality of a firearm allegedly in the possession of Bernard Amoabeng, a form 2 student.
The disagreement escalated into a shooting, injuring two students. Amoabeng is currently in police custody.
One of the victims, identified as Penamang, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti Region has established a committee to investigate the recent shooting.
Meanwhile, Suleiman Yeboah the Chairman of the Ashanti Region chapter of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has revealed the new safety measures being implemented in schools following a recent shooting incident at Adventist Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi.
Speaking on Mr Yeboah stated, “This time, we are adopting a more comprehensive approach to security. We’ve received guidelines from the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and we are already putting these measures into action,”
This search process is ongoing. We’re not just inspecting students but also their belongings to ensure nothing harmful is brought into school”.
“We are also using this opportunity to educate students about the dangers of bringing such items into school”, he added.
