The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has cried out about the danger ahead of the NDC.

According to Asiedu Nketia, he is worried that President John Dramani Mahama with three months into office some party members are already pushing for the party’s 2028 flagbearer position.

He noted that John Mahama will find it difficult to concentrate on the work given him if the jostling for the NDC 2028 flagbearer position continues.

Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the fate of the NDC is closely tied to President Mahama’s performance, and his failure would seriously affect the NDC’s chances in future elections.

Speaking on Accra FM, Asiedu Nketia stated, “If you are President Mahama, you are not even three months in office, everyone is saying if you leave I am next in line, how can a person concentrate on the work that has been given to him?”

“If we don’t take care and President Mahama fails, even if the flagbearer position is given to you, you might not like it, you will throw it away, and the danger that we are in is that I saw a post saying Julius Debrah, my name is even part, Julius Debrah, Haruna Iddrisu, the vice president and other names”, he added.

Asiedu Nketia added, “It will be difficult for you to concentrate under such circumstances, and it would be very dangerous for the party to engage in such premature competition.

Do you know that the Chief of Staff is the one who looks after all ministers and if it is somewhere that a minister is better than the chief of staff who is the boss with four years ahead of us what does it mean?”

He further narrated an incident with Paul Adom Otchere after the NDC lost the 2020 elections which led him to tag Paul Adom Otchere as a village forecaster.

“If we don’t take care and such competition begins now, it will become very dangerous. Three months or so into the second term of Nana Addo after we lost in 2020 after 3 months Paul Adom Otchere started the next NDC leadership could Mahama Asiedu Nketia, Bagbin and I realised this guy would give us a headache so I threw one bomb which I stated he was engaged in village lotto forecasting and he stopped”, Asiedu Nketia stated.

With President John Dramani Mahama serving his second and final term in office, there have been speculations as to who will lead the party in the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Foreign Affairs  Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has boldly stated the NDC must all forget about personal ambition and support President Mahama to succeed.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, NDC must recognize that if they do not support President Mahama to succeed their presidential ambitions will be a fluke, and a disaster that cannot materialize.

Meanwhile, the Global InfoAnalytics revealed in a recent poll conducted that  Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has currently become the most preferred candidate to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as its Presidential Candidate for the 2028 general elections.

According to the poll, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang managed to garner a total of 33% of all votes cast, making her the preferred choice as it stands to lead the NDC as its Presidential Candidate in the  2028 presidential elections.

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu managed to poll 24% of total votes cast, while Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson follows with 16%.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia managed 13% of votes each.
