Ghanaian blogger, Bongo Ideas has made mockery of the Generational Rights Protection Society (GRPS) over their demonstration against illegal mining (galamsey) which started on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Bongo Ideas, labelled the group as a New Patriotic Party (NPP) which seeks to malign the Mahama led administration despite the many wins made in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
In a post on X, Bongo Ideas sent across the message that the youth of Ghana will no more by into the lies and propaganda of the NPP.
He described the demonstration as a failed one with vey little participation as the protest was not fueled by the need to make things right for Ghanaians, but because it was a political agenda by the NPP.
Comparing the youth led and non-partisan campaign against galamsey in 2024 and the most recent one organized by GRPS in pictures, Bongo Ideas wrote, “Protest by Kalyjay VRS protest by Okatakyie The youth have abandoned NPP! It’s over!”
The protest by the Generational Rights Protection Society seeks to mount intense on the government to take decisive action against galamsey.
The protest, led by media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, seeks to amplify concerns over the government’s handling of the galamsey menace and to propose a more aggressive approach to ending it.
According to the group, illegal mining continues to wreak havoc on communities and the environment, with little meaningful intervention from authorities.
The demonstrators, predominantly dressed in red and black, gathered at the Obra Spot at Circle for the start of their march, yesterday and ended at the Jubilee House.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Blood, Gold, Greed!” and “Stop Galamsey Now!”, the protesters demonstrated high energy and determination.
The convenor of the protest, Okatakyire Kwame Afrifa Mensah, also shared his frustrations. He argued that although the President has only been in office for four months, that should not be an excuse for the continued devastation caused by galamsey, including rising cases of kidney diseases and loss of lives among Ghanaians.
He pointed out that when President Mahama came in, within the same four-month period, he was able to send a bill to Parliament to establish a Gold Board.
He added, “When the current President came in, he was able to quickly take steps that benefited himself and his government. So it’s all about the scale of preferences and priorities.
