The former minister for works and housing and current member of parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has quizzed that the NDC campaign song Kwen Kwen may be nice but can they deliver the jobs or the women’s bank they promised Ghanaians.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed that they warned a lot of young people who were looking for jobs or were being employed when they voted for the NDC and John Mahama they would be sacked.
He asserted that when President Mahama assumed office the first thing he did was to sack thousands of people who were employed.
Speaking on JOY Prime, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “A lot of the young people who were looking for jobs or were being employed we told them this NDC government when you vote for them when they come they will sack you.
President Mahama said they should not listen, that they were not going to sack anyone, and when they came they would employ more people, one job three people would be doing it. 1-3-3 24-hour economy I am sure you remember.
When they came to power the first thing they did thousands of people have been sacked. This morning I was reading I think the Ghana Maritime Authority, now from the presidency wrote letters to directors of finance to sack them, which unprecedented never happened before. So, over a while you have to ask yourself, was this thing true or not?”, he added.
He further touched on the NDC’s proposed women’s bank saying, “One of their most popular promises was the women’s bank when we said lets do a fund, they said lets do a Bank, did you see how much money they gave to the women’s bank GHS 51 million then they gave GHS 100 million for buying cars, computers and other things at the office of the government machinery. Which one is more important to you?
So, after a while the women of Ghana will ask themselves the song may be nice, the Kwen Kwen song may be nice but did it deliver the women’s bank?”, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah asked.
Meanwhile, Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations has revealed the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government shockingly employed 12,000 people in the public sector in a week after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections.
The sector minister revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has set up a committee to investigate all the people who are complaining of being sacked unfairly.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Rashid Pelpuo stated, “The President has set up a committee to investigate all the people who are complaining of being sacked unfairly. I’m a co-chairman of that committee. We’re working very hard to get them a response.
In that space of time, after they lost the 2024 elections, they [Akufo-Addo administration] employed 12,000 people within a week or two in all sectors. We’re now investigating it, and our results will come out soon”, he added.
He further added that the findings of the committee will guide any necessary actions.
