Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah a Ghanaian media personality has boldly claimed the John Mahama government Goldbod is a scheme to steal from Ghanaians.
The outspoken media personality also dared the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi to take him to jail over his allegation.
Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah on his For The Record show stated, “Sammy Gyamfi take me to jail, I am saying you are about to steal from Ghanaians using the Goldbod and you are using an authoritarian law.
Sammy Gyamfi is saying if you are going to use your gold for a necklace you need permission from him, he is saying nobody can use gold for a necklace without his permission.
Let’s read the law and see if we are lying, they have a military mindset instead of saying court they are saying they are going to set a Goldbod tribunal, not a court. They are setting their own court and they will become their own Judges in their own court.
They claim if you go to the Tribunal and they make a decision you can appeal, but when appealing you can appeal on point of law not fact”, he added.
Okatakyie Afrifa in an earlier video claimed Martin Ayisi who is Ibrahim Mahama has been maintained at the Minerals Commission, Sammy Gyamfi has been appointed to PMMC, Justina Nelson to the MIIF, and Ibrahim Mahama’s lawyer has also been appointed to Aluminum Development.
“The extractive sector is like Ibrahim Mahama’s boys are being placed there, in the extractive sector something is happening there we must ask questions. Are you not surprised that Sammy Gyamfi who is the communication officer who led the NDC for 8 years with communication, when the NDC came to power Sammy Gyamfi was not appointed anywhere close to communication, he was not given a ministerial appointment and he was appointed to PMMC?”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly refuted claims that Parliament rushed the approval of the Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025.
Sammy Gyamfi dismissed the allegations as “a misguided partisan political stunt,” emphasizing that the bill underwent extensive scrutiny and stakeholder consultations before its passage.
He also dismissed claims of a conflict of interest in Goldbod’s regulatory and commercial functions.
“The Goldbod is not a regulator and a commercial player in the sense or context being canvassed by some. It is simply a monopoly in the trading and export of gold. It has no competitors relative to its core function of gold trading and export,” Sammy Gyamfi explained.
