A former Chief of Staff under former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration Kwadwo Mpiani has told the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the Chairman of the party who is the leader of the party should be the face of the “Thank You Tour”.
According to him, Stephen Ntim should be the face and not a candidate who may want to contest as flagbearer again.
Kwadwo Mpiani is quoted by JOY NEWS to have stated, “The chairman is the leader of the party; he should be the face of this tour, not a candidate who may want to contest as flagbearer again”.
The NPP bigwig further questioned the rationale behind the NPP’s “Thank You Tour”.
According to the Kwadwo Mpiani, what are they thanking Ghanaians for? For nor voting for them or what?”
Speaking on JOYNEWS the Pulse on Tuesday, 29th April, Kwadwo Mpiani stated, “The whole exercise is misplaced. What are we going to thank them for? For not voting for us, or what? So I don’t think this is the time for this kind of exercise,”
“Because we performed so miserably in this election, we have set up a committee to tour the country to investigate what went wrong.
He added, “I believe the first thing we should do, after identifying the reasons for the party’s sorry state, is not to go out thanking people. The most important thing is to understand what happened and take decisive action”.
The tour comes on the back of a report by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye 12-member committee, which was established to investigate the reasons behind the party’s electoral loss.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thank You Tour following the stabbing of a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, he joined Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the sake of unity but all indication shows he is not wanted.
Kennedy Agyapong speaking to the media stated, “For unity’s sake, I felt it was important to join Dr Bawumia on his ‘Thank You’ tour. But from all indications, it’s very clear I’m not wanted.
“Because of yesterday’s events, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened. I don’t think I can adequately protect my team.”
“The reason I am withdrawing is mainly to protect my people. But we will regroup, and at the appropriate time, we will also do what we have to do to help the party and enhance my chances.”
“I have seen that some groups from Dr. Bawumia’s camp want me to speak, so they twist things. I want to plead with the NPP fraternity to desist from such one-sided politics—it will not help us”, he cautioned.
