Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has granted permission to the National Investigative Bureau (NIB), to question two Members of Parliament (MPs) Mustapha Yussif, representing Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), representing Gomoa Central.
In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, on behalf of the Speaker, he mentioned that, Speaker Alban Bagbin had approved for the two MPs to meet with officials of the NIB.
The statement emphasized the importance of adhering to Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, stressing that, these articles protect MPs from arrest or questioning without due process, ensuring their parliamentary privileges remain intact.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room at the Office of the Speaker.
To ensure their legal rights are upheld, the Speaker has mandated that the MPs attend the meeting with their legal representatives.
“Please refer to your letter dated the 25th of March 2025 in respect of a request for the release of Mustapha Yussif, MP tor Yagaba Kubori Constituency, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), MP for Gomoa Central Constituency. “Accordingly, the Rt. Hon. Speaker has directed the Honourable Members to make themselves available for the preliminary interaction with your officials in Parliament, on Monday, 7th April 2025 at 10.00 am at the Sir. Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, Office of the Speaker.”
