A Ghanaian man has told the John Mahama-led government to solve the illegal mining menace commonly known as galamsey and leave the people of Bawku to kill each other.
According to him, the destruction of water bodies poses a greater national threat, and if left unchecked, could lead to a dire situation.
He added controversially that the government should leave the Bawku conflict to resolve itself, and if the people end up killing each other, ‘we can just add their land to Accra’.
In the Bawku conflict, we have sought peace for so long but they do not want peace so let them kill themselves, the lands here in Accra are finished so when they kill themselves we will add their lands to Accra’s land.
For galamsey when they destroy the rivers we will be in hardship, that is what is needed so the government should fight galamsey and leave the people of Bawku to fight.
They have been fighting for so long, look at where Accra is, the conflict has not even gotten to Tamale, when it gets to Tamale will we go and help them solve the conflict? Solve galamsey and leave Bawku people to fight. We are even looking for lands when they kill themselves we will go and claim their lands.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the man call saying, “Galamsey kills rivers, Bawku kills people. Typical Accra mindset to joke about annexing land instead of fixing both. Leadership fail”.
“100% agree with him. We should be asking the government how much we’ve spent on the bawku crisis. Perhaps it’s time we channel our mines on more crucial things”, another X user stated.
One X user stated, “Well said 😀 but adding their land to Accra di33 how 😂😂 😂”.
The Ghana Police Administration has revealed that Police Officers and their families are being targeted for possible assassination in the Bawku conflict.
According to the police administration officers stationed at the Bawku, Pusiga, and Binduri areas are being targeted following the dastardly killing of two officers near Binduri in the Upper East Region by unknown assailants last Sunday.
This has led to the police administration immediately, banning the movement of police personnel and their families in these areas.
Additionally, the Manhyia Palace has announced that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will resume mediation efforts to address the Bawku conflict from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
