Edudzi Tameklo, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has fired shots at the former Ghana Bar Association (GBA) President, Samuel Okudzeto.
According to Edudzi Tameklo, Sam Okudzeto’s mouth with the greatest respect needs to be padlocked.
His comments come after Samuel Okudzeto raised concerns about the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
According to Samuel Okudzeto, the suspension of the Chief Justice sends the wrong signals to Ghana’s investors.
Samuel Okudzeto on JOY NEWS stated, “Now the question, of course, is that when you suspend a Chief Justice, the signal that it sends out into the international community is quite serious indeed.”
“I can assure you that a lot of investors will withhold their investments from your country by virtue of that kind of situation,” he stated.
“Even though it is pursuant to a constitutional provision, you have to be careful how you handle it.”
“If you study international relations, you begin to understand the intricacies involved in the matter. That can give a wrong order to the international community about justice delivery and legality of your situation”.
“That is the sensitivity involved in it. This is my worry,” he concluded.
However, Edudzi Tameklo, a lawyer and Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), stated Samuel Okudzeto was part of the Council of State that advised Nana Akufo-Addo to appoint Apeahene as an Electoral Commission member.
Reacting to his comments on TV3 New Day, Edudzi Tamakloe stated, “What name did you just mention? Was it the senior lawyer who, after a judge had set aside the processes leading to the suspension of Sosu’s license, when the Judge set it aside went on to attack the judge? Is that the man talking?
“There are some people, with the greatest respect, we should put padlocks on their mouths. Was he not on the Council of State that advised Nana Akufo-Addo to appoint Apeahene as an Electoral Commission member? Is he the one talking? Please, we have accorded a lot of people great respect, and they shouldn’t take that for granted with the greatest respect.”
Meanwhile, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo has filed a motion at the Supreme Court to halt the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
The member of parliament is seeking the Supreme Court to halt the suspension of the Chief Justice over claims President Mahama had violated due process.
