The National Service Personnel are set to undergo a two-month Military training from August 2025.
This follows the management of the National Service Authority (NSA) discussions with the Military High Command to implement the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP).
This new initiative is designed to provide National Service Personnel (NSPs) with basic military training.
Under the programme, personnel will undergo up to two months of composite basic military drills, with training set to begin on August 3, 2025.
According to Felix Gyamfi, all national service personnel will be required to participate in basic military drills and orientation exercises.
President John Dramani Mahama delivering his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, 27 February 2025 revealed his government plans for the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme.
Mr Mahama stated that the government would introduce short paramilitary training for all national service personnel to equip young graduates with discipline, resilience, and teamwork skills before they enter the workforce.
John Mahama stated, “We will introduce short military training as part of our national service scheme. This will instil a sense of fitness and discipline into our youth”.
Speaking during the meeting, Director-General of the NSA, Felix Gyamfi, stated, “The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth”.
Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye at the meeting expressed the Ghana Armed Forces’ full backing for the programme.
He revealed the military would deliver when the programme officially takes off.
