Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a Ghanaian media personality has revealed his party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) blamed him for the party’s defeat in the 2024 election.
According to him, the NPP blamed him for the defeat because he exposed galamsey activities a few months before the election which became a topical issue in Ghana.
Speaking in a video Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah narrated, “We all know that during Akufo-Addo’s tenure, no one demonstrated more than I did in this country, fix the country who did that, I was the one leading it, so it is not about who this or that.
One month before the election, in November when my party was going to the elections I and my brother speaker went to the forest with guns and arrested some Chinese and it became topical. Because of that, my party blamed me for those things that made them lose the election but I do not care”.
He added, “If we destroy our water bodies and because of that we will lose an election then let’s lose it today and tomorrow. So like I am saying it has nothing to do with who is in power or who is not.
When it comes to the fight against galamsey, it is not political, we are calling people on the streets today because, during Akufo-Addo’s tenure, we did the same”.
Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has announced a three-day demonstration against the John Mahama administration over their handling of the galamsey menace.
The three-day demo is scheduled to take place between April 28th to 30th, 2025 on the theme “Ghana’s Future Is Worth Fighting For”.
Okatakyie Afrifa has rallied citizens to rise and speak out against what he described as a national crisis threatening the country’s environment, natural resources, and future prosperity.
Afrifa in a public message stated, “Our water, our air, our land, our future! Let’s come together to protect Ghana’s environment from the devastating effects of galamsey”.
In a Facebook post, Okatakyie stated, “ This is a call to action for our future not a battleground for politics. We must remember that our existence is being threatened by the devastating effect of this inhumane practice. Join us on 28th, 29th and 30th April. #GalamseyMustFall #GhanaDeservesBetter”
“We’re not just protesting, we’re proposing solutions. Join the conversation on sustainable development and environmental protection,” he said.
