Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in Parliament has cried out to gospel musicians Great Ampong and Nicholas Omane Acheampong that the National Democratic Congress cheated the NPP in the 2024 elections.
According to Afenyo Markin after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat the NDC took advantage to cheat in the December polls.
Speaking to the gospel musicians, Afenyo Markin stated, “When you look at the elections, our friend in the NDC used several ways to cheat us, after the morning Dr Bawumia conceded defeat because of Ghana’s peace our friends started doing their things.
They took advantage of doing all kinds of things that were not acceptable there were a lot of places that we lost but you could see that we were cheated but in all, we have learnt our lessons”, he added.
The minority leader further consoled Great Ampong and Nicholas Omane Acheampong to remain steadfast despite the New Patriotic Party’s.
He added, “You and your friends who mounted platforms to sing and encourage people, I want to emphasise that you should not be discouraged. I urge you and your colleagues to stand firm,”
“The NDC went into opposition and is now back. We will be electing our constituency, polling station, and regional officers, and then our flagbearer, so we can start moving forward. I believe that if we work together patiently, it will flourish.”
The NPP lost the 2024 elections miserably according to the EC’s certified results, Mahama secured 6,591,790 votes, representing 56.42% of the total valid votes cast. His closest contender, Dr Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,877,611 votes, representing 41.75%.
Meanwhile, a fellow at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr Kwame Asiedu Sarpong, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will become obsolete shortly in 2028.
According to him, the party’s current political strategy will become its undoing if it does not quickly take steps to reassess it.
His warning comes not long after Global InfoAnalytics released a National Tracking Poll, which paints a vivid picture of a rapidly changing political landscape in Ghana.
“The NPP’s decline is shocking. Once seen as the natural alternative, the opposition is bleeding support. Its leadership ratings are falling, and it has failed to turn economic concerns into political gains.
Dr. Sarpong added, “Inflation and unemployment still top voter concerns, yet the opposition is unable to translate this into momentum. If the NPP doesn’t wake up, it may find itself irrelevant by 2028”.
