Mother, 4 children ‘butchered’ in Binduri bed massacre

A mother and her four (children) unfortunately suffered met their untimely death after they were killed in their sleep in Binduri, a town in the Upper East Region.

According to reports, unidentified gunmen without remorse attacked the home of the family in the late hours of the night while they were all asleep.

After gaining access to the house, the gunmen did not waste time in attacking and killing five (5) members of the family of six (6).

The husband and father of the victims narrowly escaped with his life and will now and forever live with the memory of the horrific incident.

The deadly attack is suspected to be in connection with the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.

Reports indicate the Police is on a manhunt for the suspects but community members fear this attack will only birth other reprisal attacks, leading to an unending circle of violence in the community.

Over the past few weeks, violent attacks in Binduri have been on the rise with countless people including police officers being killed in various parts of the community.

In addressing the violence, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the minister of interior imposed a curfew on Binduri and its surrounding areas in Upper East Region.

According to the press statement issued by the interior ministry, the curfew takes effect immediately from  6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The statement signed by Muntaka Mubarak read, “The Minister for the Interior on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument imposed Curfew on Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am effective Saturday,  April 12, 2025.

Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing of smock, riding motorbikes and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

Additionally, men riding motorbikes are allowed between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Any person found riding motorbikes outside these hours will be arrested and prosecuted”.
