Unidentified armed men have shot and killed a mobile money vendor in Aflao, a suburb of Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.
The robbery is reported to have happened on the evening of Monday, April 28, 2025 around 6:15 p.m.
According to Ketu South-based journalist Sylvia Awumey, the victim identified as Christopher Ahordo aka Colombo, who usually closed at 5:00pm was still in his kiosk, an occurrence which was not normal.
It was not until 6:15pm that Colombo got ready to leave the shop. According to eyewitnesses, while Colombo was in the process of closing his mobile money (MoMo) shop, two men dressed in long robes, with their faces covered and wielding pump-action guns, approached him.
They snatched a bag believed to contain money from Colombo and later shot him in the chest while they were fleeing the scene.
Colombo was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Witnesses indicated they were unable to assist him immediately, as the assailants were firing indiscriminately while fleeing into a nearby bush.
The incident reportedly occurred at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao.
According to Sylvia, residents retrieved the body and conveyed it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary.
The matter has since been reported to the municipal police, who are now handling the investigation.
MoMo robberies have become a common occurrence in Ghana, with several people losing their lives. In this year alone, several incidents have been reported in the Ashanti region, with fatalities recorded.
