The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza has announced that the government is set to construct a 3.6-kilometer bridge over River Afram.
According to the roads minister, President Mahama has directed him to design and construct the bridge from Ekye Amanfrom to Adowso over the Affram River under his flagship big push agenda.
The Construction of the 3.6-kilometre bridge and over 100 kilometres of roads has failed twice as the previous government was unable to operationalize its construction to open up the Afram plains linking three regions of Eastern, Ashanti and Oti.
Governs Kwame Agbodza speaking about government plans to construct the bridge stated, “Two attempts have been made so far to get that bridge completed, but so far it has not materialised, he (John Mahama) has instructed that under the big push, this bridge will have to be done to connect the South and the North as you can see the potential are great.
This bridge when done connects the Eastern Region, Ashanti Region, and Oti in a very strategic way to open a place for big-time agriculture and investment in agro-processing and others”.
He added, “We are not in a good place as a country, so what we should bear in mind is to deploy the best possible design that is cheaper in cost but not cheaper in quality and the consultant will make sure the quality of work that will be done will outlive us and give value.
We believe we can do this, in the course of the year things get better we believe we can get support from somewhere even without that we are going to start, in any case, if we have all the money it will take two to three years to start and finish we don’t need all the money to start”.
Some Ghanaians have however expressed their opinion about the plan to build a bridge over the River Afram saying, “ What about the bridge over the Oti River, which the Akufo Addo government secured a South Korean funding for its construction?”
“If the NDC manages to construct this bridge it is over for the Npp”, another stated.
One X user also added, “Very much needed. Last time I went there, had to wait for that slow pantoon or whatever at Adeiso saaa”.
Additionally, another Ghanaian stated, “I can’t simply wait to see this happen in my time here in the Afram plains”.
