Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa has waded in on President John Dramani Mahama suspending Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
According to Franklin Cudjoe, looking at the names on the five-member committee set up by John Mahama it is finished for the Chief Justice.
He further asserted that he still needs to know why the Chief Justice has been suspended.
In a post on X, he wrote, “The names of the committee members that will adjudicate the Chief Justice’s matter, should let you know, it is finished.
I still need to know why the CJ has been suspended”.
The committee is composed as follows:
Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice of the Supreme Court – Chairman
Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court – Member
Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General – Member
Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces – Member
Professor James Sefah Dzisah, Associate Professor, University of Ghana – Member
Additionally, the information gathered reveals that two new petitions have been filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for her removal from office.
The two more petitions filed against the suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo bring the petition against her to five.
According to the presidency communication signed by the Minister of Government Communication, John Mahama suspended the Chief Justice following a prima facie case being determined against her by the Council of State.
Part of the statement read, “President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, determined that a prima facie case has been established in respect of three petitions against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
The President has consequently, established a committee in compliance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State with the following composition to inquire into the petitions which have been referred to them”.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi the acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has levelled some shocking allegations at the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkonoo.
According to Sammy Gyamfi the suspended Chief Justice blew state funds on her family’s private trip.
He alleged that Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkonoo spent nearly GH₵260,000 on business class air tickets and approximately $30,000 in per diem allowances for her family during the trip.
