Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the minister of interior has imposed a curfew on Binduri and its surrounding areas in Upper East Region.
According to the press statement issued by the interior ministry, the curfew takes effect immediately from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
The statement signed by Muntaka Mubarak read, “The Minister for the Interior on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument imposed Curfew on Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am effective Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing of smock, riding motorbikes and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
Additionally, men riding motorbikes are allowed between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Any person found riding motorbikes outside these hours will be arrested and prosecuted”.
However, the Ghana Police Service has announced they have launched a manhunt for unknown gunmen who shot two police officers in the Upper East Region.
The two police officers stationed at the Poyamirea, a community on the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region were shot and killed.
In a statement issued by Grace Ansah-Akrofi the Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) revealed the incident occurred on Sunday, April 13.
According to reports, the police officers were in plain clothes on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri when they were attacked by the gunmen.
The gunmen after ambushing the police officers also took away the motorbike.
The identities of the officers have meanwhile been withheld as authorities work to inform their families.
Part of the police statement reads, “The Police Administration wishes to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Regional Commander, as well as all officers and men in the region. Our hearts and prayers are with you”.
“We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice, and we will surely get them,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stressed.
Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing into the shooting incident.
