Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) has sent a warning to the minority leader Afenyo Markin.
According to Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, if Afenyo Markin does not present Ntim Fordjour today, he shall plug him from his house.
The former lawmaker also condemned the NPP minority action yesterday after they gathered at the home of Ntim Fordjour to prevent the NIB from arresting him.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Nii Lante Vanderpuye stated, “Somebody must advise Ntim Fordjour, and I will let Afenyo-Markin exercise that opportunity given him today.
By 10:00, he must present Ntim Fordjour for the questioning that he is supposed to face so that we can all have our peace,” Vanderpuye stressed.
Nii Lante Vanderpuye added that the police officer can effect an arrest without a warrant.
He further declared, “What they did yesterday was unruly and uncalled for, and a total disrespect for the security services. Talking of the warrant, a police officer can effect an arrest without a warrant. If the Minority Leader does not present him today, we shall plug him from his house”.
Justin Kodua Frimpong the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday 9 April 2025 revealed the home of Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour has been stormed by the National Investigation Bureau.
According to Justin Kodua, NIB has stormed the home of Ntim Fordjour to arrest him.
Members of the Minority quickly mobilized to the MP’s residence, insisting that the NIB operatives lacked a warrant and legal basis for the arrest.
The Minority in Parliament described the attempted arrest as an illegal and politically motivated attempt by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
The incident took place at the MP’s Spintex residence in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, following allegations he made concerning two suspicious aircraft that allegedly landed at Kotoka International Airport, carrying drugs and large sums of cash.
Although government officials have dismissed the claims as unfounded, the attempted arrest has sparked fears of a crackdown on opposition voices raising concerns about national issues.
Addressing the media, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin condemned the move, labelling it an act of harassment and a clear attempt to intimidate a sitting lawmaker.
He warned that such actions undermine parliamentary oversight and democratic accountability.
He further noted that no formal charges or documentation were provided during the incident, reinforcing suspicions of political interference.
He assured Ghanaians of the Minority’s unwavering stance in defending the principles of democracy and called on the public to remain alert and support efforts to uphold the rule of law.
