Member of Parliament (MP) of Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib has denied rumors of his death.
In the early hours of Wednesday, April 16, 2025, there were several posts on social media
Which read, “Rest well Jerry Shaib” with a lot of crying emojis.
This sparked confusion and sadness online as many were surprised by such messages which connoted the MP was dead. Although no official message was received from Parliament or the family of the MP, many Ghanaians believed it to be true.
However addressing rumours of his death in an interview, Jerry Shaib said, “You should ignore all the rumours and know that by God’s grace I am alive. I do not know where all the rumours are coming from.”
He further disclosed that the “Rest Well” message is said to have come from an interview he had granted earlier. The MP clarified that in the said interview he never said or supported that rest well means one is just resting.
The rest well tag comes after a known New Patriotic Party activist, Mohammed Zakou, was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) publishing false information about Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and causing fear and panic.
In a post on his Facebook wrote, “Rest well your Excellency”, accompanied with the picture of the Vice President.
His comment came on the back of the vice president being rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025, after a sudden illness on Friday night after work.]
Demanding his release from NIB custody, his lawyers clarified that his post did not mean the Vice President was dead, but that was his way of wishing the Vice President a speedy recovery.
This explanation did not sit well with a lot of Ghanaians but, Jerry Ahmed is also said to have used a similar defence for Mohammed Zakou, hence he being given a taste of his own medicine.
