Kennedy Agyapong the former member of parliament has eulogised the Asante Mamponghene Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II.
Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, the revered traditional ruler of Asante Mampong is dead.
The Asante-Mamponghene died after years of dedicated service to the Ashanti Kingdom.
The late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II occupies the silver stool as the acting overlord of the Ashanti kingdom in the absence of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
News broke of the death of the revered traditional ruler last week April 22, 2025.
According to Asante tradition the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene has been formally informed of the death of Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
Kennedy Agyapong in a post on X wrote, “I am saddened by the news of the passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene, occupant of Asanteman’s silver stool.
His contribution to the nation spans decades of public service and sterling leadership to Asanteman and the National House of Chiefs.
He was a great advocate for good governance, respect for rule of law, political tolerance and economic empowerment particularly for the youth.
His demise is a tragic loss not just for Asanteman but Ghana at large. I offer my commiserations to Otumfour Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Mamponghemaa, the Asanteman Council, the National House of Chiefs, his family and the good people of Asante Mampong”.
He was one of the Paramount Chiefs of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area who reigned for 26 solid years without experiencing any unnecessary chieftaincy disputes.
According to records at Mampong, he is the only Paramount chief installed since 1930 and there have not been any chieftaincy disputes and other litigations in the Traditional Area.
The tenure of Daasebre Osei Bonsu brought absolute peace to the Traditional Area.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was enstooled on August 25, 1996, when he succeeded his direct uncle, Nana Atakora Amaniampong II, who abdicated.
He is known in private life as Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie and was born on December 31, 1939.
He is a product of Prempeh College and the University of Ghana, Legon.
Before he was enstooled as Mamponghene, Daasebre was the Registrar at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
It will be recalled the revered traditional ruler was in the news quite recently when he issued an ultimatum to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress in the Mampong Constituency.
According to the Ashanti Mampong Traditional Council led by the Mamponghene, the NDC Mampong has less than 24 hours to retract their anti-Ashanti comments made by some youth of the party.
