Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the mayor of Kumasi has boldly stated from May 1 stray cattle will be killed to feed prisoners at the Kumasi Central Prison.
According to Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, stray cattle found causing a bother in the city of Kumasi will be seized, slaughtered, and used to feed inmates.
He asserted that the decision stems from stray cattle roaming freely and interrupting public life.
Speaking at a news conference in Kumasi Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi warned, “There is another thing I will want you to help me look at. If you have cattle and if they stray in the vicinity of KMA, be assured that from May 1, they will be killed and given to Kumasi Central Prison for food.
Especially the route from the airport through to Manhyia Palace”, he stated.
He further added, “I cannot sit for visitors come to Kumasi [and] from the airport to Manhyia, and all they see are faecal matter from cattle.”
The mayor of Kumasi further advised cattle herders to keep their herds out of the metropolis to prevent serious consequences.
Meanwhile, the Sekondi Metropolitan Assembly has also announced plans to impound stray cattle and prosecute owners.
According to the Sekondi Metropolitan Assembly, the decision to impound cattle is based on a total disregard for the STMA bylaw stipulating the Control of Livestock 2017.
A statement from the Assembly indicated that owners of cattle should take their cattle off the streets by Monday, February 17, 2025.
