Mohammed Zakou, a bodyguard of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has allegedly been arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
According to reports, Mohammed Zakou has been arrested for deliberately publishing false information about Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
In a social media post, Mohammed Zakou boldly claimed that the vice president had died.
He wrote, Rest well your Excellency”.
His comment came on the back of the vice president being rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025, after a sudden illness on Friday night after work.
However, after administering the initial treatment, experts from the University of Ghana Medical Centre advised her to seek further treatment abroad.
This health update was disclosed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
In a post on X, the netizen wrote, “ What is wrong with our Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opuko-Agyemang and why are there talks and whisperings of Charlotte Osei being considered as her possible replacement? What is the current state of our. What is going on????”
However, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has debunked rumours about Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang facing a critical health crisis.
According to Okudzeto, the Veep is in good health and will soon resume her duties.
Addressing Ghanaians living in Nigeria, Ablakwa emphasised that prayers from Ghanaians both at home and abroad have contributed to her recovery.
“Some fears about the state of our mother, the first female vice president of the Republic of Ghana. I also want to assure that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers worked, your prayers from all of us, Ghanaians at home and abroad, have really worked.
“I have heard from her, so I know what I am talking about, and she’s doing well,” he stated.
Ablakwa urged the public to disregard what he described as “vicious and unGhanaian evil propaganda” being circulated about Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health.
He expressed confidence in her ability to inspire young girls and women across the nation.
Reports however indicate that the Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang began a three-week medical break on April 7 2025.
According to Jubilee House sources, the break follows medical advice from her doctor.
