Ghanaian comedian, Lil Win has issued a stern warning to television stations in Ghana telling them not to telecast his movies without his permission and appropriate compensation.
According to him, Ghanaian actors and actresses have suffered so much disrespect from television stations in the country, “and this must end.”
He indicated that television stations in the country can purchase foreign telenovelas for huge sums of money, but refuse to show the same courtesy to the local movie industry.
“This warning goes to all tv stations in Ghana and all CEOs of tv stations in Ghana. You can take huge sums of money and buy telenovelas from abroad and show on television stations in Ghana. We have shot a lot of movies and series but you don’t buy them and have resulted to downloading Nigerian movies and showing them.”
Issuing a stern warning to television stations, he said, “But know this, don’t make the mistake of taking my movie and showing them on T.V when you’ve not bought it. If you can pick movies from outside Ghana and show, then don’t pick my movies from my YouTube channel and show on T.V for free.”
Lil Win threaten legal action against television stations who disregard his warning. “If we go to court and because you have money you want to frustrate me, I will also make sure you are never happy.”
Lil Win’s warning comes after Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye blasted Ghanaian television stations for unauthorised broadcasting of her films, joining fellow Nigerian filmmakers Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli in confronting what appears to be systemic intellectual property infringement by Ghanaian media entities.
“That TV station in Ghana, I’m talking to you; don’t show my movies. I haven’t given you permission. Before, I used to say, ‘At least come to me; let’s discuss and share, but now, I don’t want your money. Don’t show my movies.”

“Let the battle begin. I will not let anyone profit off my blood, sweat, and sleepless nights,” she reiterated.
