Ace broadcast Journalist Bridget Otoo has mocked the Assin South Member of Parliament John Ntim Fordjour after he clarified a serious allegation, he made during a press conference claiming some suspicious flights landed in Accra via the Kotoka International Airport.
Bridget Otoo noted that Ntim Fordjour was trying to become the chief intercepter as Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was known for in opposition.
She stated on X, “Doing Ablakwa’s job be hard…lol”.
Her comments follow the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament coming out to say he was not sure the flights were carrying cocaine or money, but he suspects them to be from the intel he got.
Rev John Ntim Fordjour during his interview alleged that two suspicious flights AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B recently landed at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria, a location known for drug trafficking and money laundering. Intelligence suggests these flights carried suspected cocaine and cash.
The Minority demanded full disclosure of the cargo contents to assure Ghanaians of airspace security.
Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, “Ghana in the past eight years, had been ranked favourably by notable global organisations as the second most peaceful country in Africa in respect of crime rate and globally, ahead of Australia and Canada.
“It is therefore imperative that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana continues to be safe and not degenerate into a safe haven for pirates, drug trafficking and money laundering.”
Speaking on JOYNEWS Rev John Ntim Fordjour detailed, “National Security knows, at the moment our intelligence is at it, but we haven’t ascertained the actual people behind it. National security has all the instruments and resources to ascertain any further information related to these flights and that is why the question is directed at them.
That is for National Security to set the records and if they deny further information available will be made, we are waiting for them to provide responses on the details of this aircraft their cargo who is behind it”.
He added, “Suspected cocaine and money, are the suspicions our intel intercepted. Nothing stops us from the media from getting involved in some of these concerns, the more transparent it is the better for governance, and the better it is for security.
Parliament is not in session and we cannot wait until such a time when parliament comes back, so the media through this engagement pick their intel and know that this is a legitimate question and it is of public interest.
Hundreds of aircraft land on our soil and depart every month, hundreds of them, have we raised any concerns of any, this is not speculation this is providing specific details, this is all in the manifest it is in their details”, Rev John Ntim Fordjour stated.
Meanwhile, John Mahama has stated his government has zero tolerance for using Ghana as a transit or final destination for drugs or drug trafficking.
In a Facebook post, John Mahama wrote, “My attention has been drawn to allegations made at a press conference by an honourable member of parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, regarding two suspicious flights arriving at the Kotoka International Airport suspected to be involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
Government takes all allegations seriously, and to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, I have directed all relevant investigative agencies – including the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Police CID, the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and the National Security Coordinator – to immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable member of parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.
We will maintain zero tolerance for using Ghana as a transit or final destination for drugs or drug trafficking. The NIB made a high-profile bust of drugs last week, with a street value of $350 million”, the president stated.
