Communications Director for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia 2024 campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye says Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the most experienced politician amongst the crop of politicians in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently.
According to him, the former vice president Dr. Bawumia was running mate for eight years, a vice president for eight years, and a flagbearer for the biggest opposition political party in the country now, making him the most experienced person in the party.
Miracles Aboagye argues the rank and file of the party argue it is imperative that the party rallies in unity behind a leader who has provided alternative policies to issues affecting the country and that leader is clearly Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“In our party today, the most experienced and active politician in our party today is Dr Bawumia. He is one that has been at the foremost of this country’s politics than any other person. He’s been Vice President for eight years, he’s been running mate for eight years and that is sixteen years. He’s been a flagbearer too.”
“The party rank and file across the country are clear in their minds our only fast route to power will be to stay united neatly and closely together behind a leader that has articulated clear-cut alternative policies to the issues that matter to the people of this country and that person is Dr Bawumia. That one there is no doubt about it. Data supports it, our political history supports that,” he explained on Accra-based Joy News.
On claims by some party people that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was a wrong candidate and therefore should be replaced, he indicated that the party will be going into internal elections very soon and such utterances are welcome.
“Even with comments like these, Dr Bawumia’s posture is team let’s work with the party who are committed to ensuring that we get back to power so that we can implement these ideas we have for all these sectors,” he said.
Miracles Aboagye stance is in sharp contrast to the Deputy Communications Officer NPP, Ernest Owusu Bempah, who has blamed the party’s overwhelming defeat at the December 7 2024 elections on its decision to choose a wrong candidate.
According to him, over 2.1 million members of the party did not vote in the 2024 general elections because Dr. Bawumia was the party’s presidential candidate.
According to him, many NPP supporters felt disillusioned by the leadership’s choice, leading them to abstain from voting.
“For the first time, I met a taxi driver who is a member of NPP who told me that he voted for the NDC in the 2024 election, he showed me his party card, and the reason is that we didn’t take the right candidate for him to come and vote for” he claimed.
Without providing any scientific data to back his claim, he stated that as many as 2.1 million NPP members abstained from voting because they did not approve of the Presidential candidate.
“Go down there with a hidden camera and ask the ordinary people why they refused to vote. 2.1 million decided not to go and vote, 2.1 million, do you think it is a joke? NPP party base, supporters refused to vote, do you know what that means?” he argued.
