He cautioned NPP members who are pursuing their ambition to lead the party to be cautious not to denigrate the legacy of Akufo-Addo.

Kwasi Kwarteng is quoted by GHONE TV to have stated, “ As we pursue our ambition to lead NPP, we should be cautious not to denigrate the legacy of former President Akufo-Addo, it remains our strongest trump card for future campaigns”.

His comments come after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia listed the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government sins that led to the 2024 election defeat.

According to Dr Bawumia, hardship in the country, arrogance displayed by his government, e-levy, the debt restructuring program and the lack of reshuffling of ministerial portfolios caused the NPP’s defeat.

Speaking to members of the party in Takoradi on April 26, as part of the NPP’s Thank You tour in the Western Region, Dr Bawumia stated, “The studies we have done so far, the big issues that people complained about were; the cost of living, there was hardship, arrogance of power and the debt restructuring program. The party suggested we reshuffle our ministerial portfolios.

For eight years we never listened. The party advised against the implementation of the e-levy, and the debt restructuring program. And yet we never listened,” Dr Bawumia lamented.

Dr Bawumia added, “The president announced there would be no haircut, all Ghanaians were happy, but when it came, we gave haircuts. When you look the government was not paying NABCO anymore, where not paying afforestation, and the caterers were also not being paid.

Also, in most of the regions that the majority of our votes come from we did not develop the place, the Western Region the roads, the Market Circle we were not able to complete it”.

Meanwhile, Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere, a political analyst with the University of Cape Coast has boldly stated, that Professor Mike Oquaye’s report indicts former president Akufo-Addo as the cause of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat.

According to him, the Mike Ouaye report indicts Akufo-Addo so strongly that they align with the findings of Global InfoAnalytics which showed the former president was largely to blame for the NPP’s defeat.

He further asserted that Akufo-Addo would go down as the most miserable ex-president in Ghana’s history.

Speaking in an interview with Metro TV, Dr Asante Otchere stated, “You may recall that I said on your platform that President Akufo-Addo was going to be the worst and most miserable ex-president in this country.

This is part of the evidence. I can tell you that the report (Ouaye report) indicts him so strongly that they align with the findings of Global InfoAnalytics, which show that 68% of respondents blame the loss of the NPP on President Akufo-Addo.

About thirty-something percent blame Bawumia and around forty-something percent blame Ken Ofori-Atta”.

Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere added, “If you do a cumulation, you will realize that certain individuals dragged the party down from within the government. But they don’t want these individuals to be held accountable because doing so would expose the lingering influence of their political ‘relics.’
