Kwesi Pratt Jr the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper has stated former President Akufo-Addo has suddenly become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) devil.
According to Kwesi Pratt, Akufo-Addo who once could not be criticised is now being blamed for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on April 15, 2025, Kwesi Pratt stated, “Previously, you couldn’t criticize former President Akufo-Addo, but now he is being blamed for the election defeat. Isn’t it surprising? How did he suddenly become the devil?”.
He further noted that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who sang hosanna for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are now blaming him for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
Kwesi Pratt added, “The last time I listened to our sister Adwoa Safo, she was saying that no matter what, Dr Bawumia will lead the party. But I have also heard from the other side that no matter what, our brother Kennedy Ohene Agyapong will lead the party, and they are working assiduously towards that.
“Boakye Agyarko has also stated that the party can only improve if it returns to its core values.
“Now, this guy (Owusu-Bempah) has stated that the election defeat should be blamed on Bawumia, rejecting him as the flagbearer,” he said.
Kwesi Pratt continued, “The party knows the reasons behind their loss and how to regain power. But my concern is that the same people who were supporting Bawumia and praising his qualities are now criticizing him. They were singing Hosanna for him, but now look at what is happening”.
His comments come after Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) boldly claimed, that 2.1 million Ghanaians did not vote because of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the NPP grassroots was disillusioned by the leadership’s choice, leading them to abstain from voting.
He revealed that a Taxi driver who is an NPP member boldly told him he voted for NDC because the NPP did not present the right candidate.
Speaking on Oyerpa TV in an interview, Ernest Owusu-Bempah stated, “There are so many things going on in this country when you look at the youth they are losing interest in politics.
For the first time, I met a taxi driver who is a member of NPP who told me that he voted for the NDC in the 2024 election, he showed me his party card, and the reason was that we didn’t take the right candidate for him to come and vote for and this are evidence on the ground. God is my witness it is not a joke”.
He added, “We are listening to the ordinary Ghanaian people what they are saying, what I say is what people are saying not my opinion. The future of the NPP depends on these two people. I was in New York I was almost heckled by the Ghanaian community in New York. They say when they advise us we don’t listen, we should bring Kennedy Agyapong and they will vote for him.
Go down there with a hidden camera and ask the ordinary people why they refused to vote. 2.1 million decided not to go and vote, 2.1 million, do you think it is a joke? NPP party base, supporters refused to vote, do you know what that means?”, he added.
Ernest Owusu Bempah asked NPP members to wait for the committee reports, “Let Prof Mike Oquaye’s Committee bring out their report and that is where we will hear things”.
