The founder and president of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has stated former president Akufo-Addo’s government used the Supreme Court to pursue its very dark agenda.
He asserted that the Supreme Court in the last 8 years has been very political.
In a Facebook post, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “Truth be told, the Supreme Court in the last 8 years has been very political, high-handed and a willing pliant for the previous government in pursuing most of its very dark agenda.- SALL, Domelevo, Quayson etc”.
He further added, “I am still not convinced that the law requiring that all proceedings determining the fate of the Chief Justice be held privately until a decision is reached”.
Franklin Cudjoe in an earlier post also noted that the names on the five-member committee set up by John Mahama means it is finished for the Chief Justice.
He asserted that he still needs to know why the Chief Justice has been suspended.
In a post on X, he wrote, “The names of the committee members that will adjudicate the Chief Justice’s matter, should let you know, it is finished.
I still need to know why the CJ has been suspended”.
According to the presidency communication signed by the Minister of Government Communication, John Mahama suspended the Chief Justice following a prima facie case being determined against her by the Council of State.
Part of the statement read, “President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, determined that a prima facie case has been established in respect of three petitions against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
The President has consequently, established a committee in compliance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State with the following composition to inquire into the petitions which have been referred to them”.
The committee is composed as follows:
Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice of the Supreme Court – Chairman
Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court – Member
Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General – Member
Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces – Member
Professor James Sefah Dzisah, Associate Professor, University of Ghana – Member
