Ghanaian football legends, Abedi Ayew Pele and Asamoah Gyan have been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as ambassadors for 2025 African Schools Championship.
The duo will play critical roles as ambassadors to promote the tournament and inspire the young players and participants of the tournament. This is geared at fostering the growth of youth football in Africa.
“Their involvement will undoubtedly bring immense value to the championship, and their presence will serve as a motivation to the participating children and their teams,” part of the statement released by the Ghana Football Association read.
The 2025 CAF African Schools Championship will be hosted by Ghana at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in April.
Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year and former Captain of the Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, is renowned for his exceptional skill, vision, and leadership on the pitch.
A former AFCON winner in 1982, Abedi led the team to the 1992 African Cup of Nations finals. Abedi Pele’s success extended beyond Ghana, with a distinguished career in European club football, playing for teams like Marseille and Lille.
Goal-Scoring Legend Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, is a household name in African football. With an impressive record of 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars, he has consistently demonstrated his prowess as a clinical finisher.
Gyan’s career has spanned multiple continents, with stints in the English Premier League, Serie A, and the UAE Pro League.
