The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate for the 2024 general elections, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO, has presented cash of Ghc50,000 and 500 bags of cement to victims of the Adum Bluelight fire.
His donation is to assist with reconstruction of the market.
He also announced that an additional GH₵100,000 would be allocated from the Manhyia South MP’s Common Fund to further support the rebuilding process.
During a visit to the site on Wednesday, March 2, 2024, the former Manhyia South MP expressed his sympathies and pledged his support for their recovery efforts.
He emphasized the importance of unity, urging them to avoid divisions that could slow down the recovery efforts.
His visit follows that of the NPP’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
A two-story building housing several shops in the central business district of Adum in Kumasi caught fire.
The fire happened at the popular Blue Light arena, close to Hello FM.
Reports suggest the fire started around 6 am and spread rapidly as fire officers made attempts to contain the blaze.
According to reports some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage their goods.
It has also been revealed that a shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point, a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.
The information available suggests Most of the shops deal in mobile phones and accessories, jewellery, and clothing.
An eyewitness account claims the fires started from a touching electricity pole in the area, leading to a sparkle on the top floor of one of the buildings.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service are at the scene but is facing difficulties accessing the building.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025, devastated the Adum Bluelight section of the market, leaving traders counting their losses.
