Franklin Cudjoe the president of the policy think tank IMANI Africa has told the 2024 presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that 2.1 million New Patriotic Party (NPP) members did not vote in the 2024 election because they were observing political distance.
According to Franklin Cudjoe, the NPP government under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia administration became a dangerous virus hence members of the party observed a political distance from them.
In a Facebook post, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “ They were observing political distancing as the government had become a dangerous virus. Good morning my man, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia”.
His comments come after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia once again reiterated that 2.1 million NPP supporters didn’t vote in the December polls.
According to him, if the NPP decided to vote, they would have won the elections.
Speaking on the first day of his “Thank You Tour” at the NPP headquarters on Wednesday, April 23, Dr Bawumia stated, “Notwithstanding our hard work, we still suffered a heavy defeat. When you look at what happened, you will see that it was internal. Many of our supporters did not come out to vote.
“This is fundamentally why we lost the election. If you look at 2020 vis-à-vis 2024, 2.1 million of our supporters did not come out to vote. So, the key to victory is within the NPP because we decided not to vote. So, if we decide to vote, we will win,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has boldly claimed, that 2.1 million Ghanaians did not vote because of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the NPP grassroots was disillusioned by the leadership’s choice, leading them to abstain from voting.
He revealed that a Taxi driver who is an NPP member boldly told him he voted for NDC because the NPP did not present the right candidate.
