Sam Nartey George, the minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations has fired back at the former Managing Director of the Ghana Post, Bice Osei Kufour known popularly as Obour.
According to Sam George, Obour would soon have his hands full explaining his shady deeds at Ghana Pos when he was the Managing Director.
Sam George’s comments come after Obour called on the Communication Minister Sam George to exercise restraint in the dismissal of workers.
The sector minister took decisive action by terminating the employment of nearly 100 staff members of Ghana Post Limited.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the minister explained that the affected staff were hired without adhering to proper procedures, creating inefficiencies within the ministry.
“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalization is ongoing”.
The minister further revealed that the rationalization process is part of a broader effort to streamline operations within the ministry and its agencies.
In an interview on Asempa FM, Obour indicated that a little patience and due diligence would have provided clarity on the issue.
“The due processes were followed with the recruitment process, and I believe he will rescind the decision if he goes through the documents. So, I will plead with him,” Obour stated.
Reacting to the former Managing Director of the Ghana Post, Bice Osei Kufour Sam George stated that Obour has offered to help but his help is not needed to explain the post-election recruitment but rather the shady deals he engaged in as MD of Ghana Post.
Sam George in his post wrote, “ Obour has offered to help. His offer is welcome. Not to explain post December 7th 2024 recruitment but rather the shady deals he engaged in as MD of Ghana Post.
He would have his hands full soon in explaining his deeds at Ghana Post. He should exercise some patience. 🦁🇬🇭”.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Post under Obour faced criticism over an alleged GH¢4.1 million extravagant expenditure on the Otumfuo commemorative stamp launched in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to concerned workers who spoke anonymously, the entire expenditure lacked transparency, with management allegedly using the Asantehene’s name to obscure the full details.
The concerned staff described the situation as “a gargantuan rot that has taken over Ghana Post” and urged the OSP to intervene immediately to stop further malpractices. They claimed the GH¢4.1 million was spent on printing cryptocurrency stamps, launching them in London and Ghana, and other related services during the commemorative event in May of last year.
